GetTheJob!
I am always looking for a job. OK, maybe I'm not looking, but I'm listening. Always. Just to see what is available.
Recently I've been reading a series of posts at Joel on Software about the interviewing process. These posts are sprinkled with references to Joel's job board, and with scalding complaints about the big job boards like Monster's.
I've had my resume on Monster, and let me tell you that Joel is right. The site is filled with "job postings" that aren't real jobs and also with recruiters that aren't real recruiters. In other words, the recruiters may call to make contact with you, but don't have an actual job for you. They want to get you in their pocket so that they can make money if a suitable opening appears--but don't actually have you in mind for an actual job, right this second.
GetTheJob.com is a different kind of job site. There are no postings from headhunters, third party recruiters or too-good-to-be-true scam jobs. The site is more of a job search engine than a job site, indexing job postings directly from tens of thousands of company websites and organizing them into a searchable database. The site represents an opportunity for a direct connection between potential employer and employee, with no middlemen. And without the need to scour company web sites for months at a time.
This is a great idea whose time has come. People are really frustrated with the big job boards, to the point that they want nothing to do with them. Job search may be the answer.
